One of our planting jobs this year has been the creation of six new woodland compartments on an estate at the southern end of the Pentlands. The owner wanted to establish mixed woodlands on an open area of hill for various reasons, including; providing additional shelter, improving the landscape, enhancing the sporting potential of his estate and extending the wooded area.
Treeline was involved from the start and, following discussions and site visits, designed the woodlands and secured grant funding before planning and carrying out all of the work onsite. New fencing was erected, the ground was mounded and drained where appropriate before planting which was carried out carefully with fertiliser being applied with each plant to aid early growth.
